POLICY ON ENVIRONMENT
Notably, 50% of factors that adversely affect the sustainability of our environment emanate from processes involved in building construction and energy utilization. In an effort to aid in the mitigation effects of the afore-going, we do play a proactive role in the utilization of clean/green technologies.
At Fundi – Facilities we endeavor:
- To use processes that bear the minimum cost to environmental sustainability
- To build products that rely as much as possible on renewable energy sources
- To Innovate packages that salvage resources that would have been wasted
Sustainable Building, Environmental & Management Solutions
1. STABILISED MUD BLOCKS
The basis of such construction is the use of blocks made of soil with a certain percentage of stabilizers like cement or lime (5%) which is pressed with a manual mechanical press to get a dense block of various sizes. Such mud blocks can be recycled as soil which is not the case with bricks
Advantages: Lower water consumption in the production of the blocks It is 25% cheaper than the burnt bricks. It’s also environmental friendly and energy efficient.
2. AFORESTATION AND RE-FORESTATION
Aforestation is the process of planting trees in an area that previously had no trees while Re-aforestation is where one plants trees in an area where trees have been cut.
It helps to avert the effects of degradation of forest cover that emanate from construction and energy utilization.
Advantages: Contribution to carbon emission reduction and sustainable environment conservation. Creation of employment opportunities. It also helps prevent soil erosion.
3. RAIN WATER HARVESTING
The rainwater is collected from the roof and directed through a pipe into a tank and passes through a filter, which removes leaves and other debris.
Advantages: Saves resources that would be used in the construction of wells It averts water run off and subsequently soil erosion
4. SOLAR INSTALLATIONS
Solar Energy is formed when light energy from the sun is converted into usable energy by use of a panel that is then stored in batteries. This energy can be used to provide electricity to homes, schools, hospitals, etc.
advantages: The energy is pollution-free. It is cost-effective because it is almost maintenance-free
5. ENERGY SAVING STOVES
The use of energy energy-saving stove guarantees energy efficiency compared to the traditional open 3-stone stove. The thermal insulation in the stove reduces heat loss which doubles the amount of energy transfer from charcoal to food being cooked.
Advantages: It reduces the dependency on wood and thus checks deforestation It reduces exposure to indoor air pollution since it uses less charcoal
6. BRIQUETTE MAKING
briquette-making enterprise not only generates income but also explores the potential of fuel briquettes to reduce demand for unsustainably harvested wood and charcoal.
This would further aid in reducing indoor air pollution(wood smoke), which is common when people use charcoal firewood in traditional stoves, resulting in a dent in their health.
Here, FUNDI provides a variety of benefits like, income generation, protecting the environment, and improving public health all in one stride. Notably, FUNDI endeavors to reduce the rate at which forests, the main source of alternative products, are being depleted.
Benefits of briquette-making
- Environmental Friendly: Charcoal briquettes give less toxic fumes
- Waste Management: Materials used to make briquettes are obtained from waste products of otherwise what would be waste
- Cost Effective & low energy use: In comparison to the energy forms like charcoal and firewood, briquettes do burn twice as efficiently enabling the consumer to save time and cost.
7.BIO GAS/ BIO GAS DIGESTER
Biogas technology converts biological waste into energy. A biogas digester consists of one or more air-tight reservoirs into which a suitable feedstock e.g. cow dung, abattoir waste, etc is used. The gas can be connected to a household stove for cooking, for lighting or other appliances.
Advantages: The fuel is efficient and smokeless. The biogas slurry can be used as fertilizer
8. BIO MASS GASIFIER
The gasier converts solid fuel such as wood chips, saw dust briquettes, and agro-residue converted into briquettes into a gaseous fuel through a thermo-chemical process and the resultant gas can be used for power generation.
Advantages: It replaces fossil fuels. it reduces energy cost by 40% – 50%
